Armidale in the heart of the New England district of Northern New South Wales is a
unique rural centre. It is a university city with a sophisticated lifestyle
surrounded by some magnificent national parks. A rich history of settlement
ranging from the early days of grazing and mining to later developments in
education and business has left a legacy of fine architecture, picturesque
farm buildings, historic monuments, museums, and galleries to interest visitors.
Armidale is the administrative centre for the New England region. It is located
approximately half way between Sydney and Brisbane on the New England Highway,
national route 15. It is 1000m above mean sea level.
