Cairns is in Northern Queensland and within Cape York Peninsula on the eastern coastline. The city is near some of Australia's best known natural features including: the Great Dividing Range the longest and biggest mountain chain in Australia, the Daintree Rainforest, the oldest on Earth, and the Coral Sea which includes the Great Barrier Reef. The city also has some great beaches as you head north.
While the CBD is located at Trinity Inlet, the northern suburbs extend to Trinity Bay with many suburbs/beach communities in between. Heading north on Captain Cook Highway you can turn off at the following beaches: Machans Beach, Holloways Beach, Yorkeys Knob, Trinity Park, Trinity Beach, Kewarra Beach, Clifton Beach, Palm Cove, and Ellis Beach. Further north from here and outside Cairns are the beach communities of Wangetti, Oak Beach, and beautiful Port Douglas.
