Tasmania's east coast has spectacular beaches and scenery packed within a temperate climate. The coastline is ideal for swimming during the summer months, and walking, kayaking, and diving, all year round. Jewels of this coast include: the Bicheno Coast, Honeymoon Bay, Bay of Fires, the Tessellated Pavement, and Freycinet National Park. The latter has snow-white sands and prisitne clear blue water surrounding by forested mountains. Wineglass Bay in this park is considered by many (including Lonely Planet) as one of the world's top ten beaches.
The states eastern coastline also has convict ruins at Maria Island National Park.
The east coast boasts many scenic coastal towns that offer a range of accomodation from camping areas to fine hotels as well as information and guided tours for travellers. Inland from the coast are a number of national parks with fine examples of native flora and fauna.
