Port Douglas is a coastal resort town approximately 60km drive north of Cairns, Queensland. The town is a popular holiday destination due to its location to two World Heritage sites, the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest. Unlike nearby Cairns which is also a great base to discover these areas, Port Douglas is much smaller and laid back. The absense of traffic lights and parking meters also adds to the permanent holiday atmosphere. The town also has its own spectacular beach making it an attraction in its own right.
The town offers a variety of accomodation from 5-star hotels to backpackers. It is an ideal base to book tours, rent a car, shop at the Sunday market, or dine in one of many high class restaurants that serve up fresh local produce.
