New Caledonia contains architecture and art from a blend of French, Melanesian, Polynesian, and Asian cultures. The dominant culture outside Noumea is the Melanesian culture (Kanak). Relics, carvings, and dwellings from the Kanaks is unique and well preserved.
French, the official language of New Caledonia is spoken by most residents. There are twenty-eight languages spoken by Kanaks.
