View from Miramar Peninsula looking over the harbour toward the CBD. Miramar's strategic position made it an ideal location for gun emplacements to counter Japanese warships entering Wellington Harbour during the Second World War. Being abandoned long ago, many are accessible by foot and feature the base that these guns sat upon, observation posts, and underground rooms. While there are many locations around the harbour containing these military fortifications, the one pictured includes two anti-aircraft guns and a command post which can be reached from Massey Memorial.
