Some Wellington suburbs are located on hills that surround Wellington Harbour, so they have great views of the sea. Other suburbs are located on the North Islands south coast and south western coastline, both have great sea views too. The western suburbs are mostly landlocked in a valley, but have views of the western hills and bushland.
The Hutt Valley to the north of Wellington Harbour is a densely populated area that includes both Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt. Although Lower Hutt is separate to Wellington, they have nearly merged together between the suburb of Newlands in Wellington and Korokoro in the Hutt Valley. A merger of Wellington, the Hutt Valley, and Porirua into a single city administered by a single council is being discussed.
