The Australian Independent Distributors' Association recognise Roxy Cinema on Park Rd, Miramar as the best cinema in New Zealand. Located on the same street as Weta Digital, an Oscar winning special effects company, it is popular with tourists as well as locals.
The cinema was restored by Oscar winning Weta Workshop founders and others to be a place to showcase their films. Originally built in art deco fashion, this 1928 building has not only been restored, but had the interior completely rebuilt and refurbished. It now houses two luxury cinemas as well as a cafe and cocktail lounge.
