The blackbird was introduced to New Zealand from Europe. The female blackbird (pictured) has mainly dark brown plumage unlike the male of which the species is named after. In New Zealand the species eats a wide range of native and exotic fruit and is spread throughout the country up to an elevation of 1,500 metres.
