The Pukeko is the name given to the Australasian swamphen in New Zealand. It is a native species common to New Zealand but it also exists in Australia, eastern Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and a number of smaller islands in South-east Asia. They are very common and are often seen at roadsides foraging for food.
