There are a number of species of Robin in New Zealand, all of which are endemic. The North Island robin, the South Island robin, the Black robin, and the New Zealand tomtit.
The Stewart Island robin is recognised as a sub-species of the South Island robin and the New Zealand tomtit (Maori: kōmiromiro) has five subspecies. New Zealand robins belong to the Australian–New Guinean family Petroicidae and are not related in any way to the British robins.
