The Rangipo Desert receives 1500 - 2500 mm of rain, thus it doeson't qualify as a true desert. It resembles a desert due to poor soil quality and drying winds. The vegetation is low and scrubby, and the climate is cold to alpine with around 270 ground frosts per year.
