There are more than 400 golf courses in a country with just over 4 million people. This equates to New Zealand having the highest amount of courses of any country per capita.

Many courses are often located in beautiful natural settings with some set among coastline & cliffs, forests, lakes, mountains, and even volcanoes. Overseas visitors often remark how the landscape in the North Island looks like one big golf course due to its unulating hills covered in rich green pasture. So it is relatively easy to build courses in New Zealand as the landscape lends itself to the task.

As far as costs go, playing golf in New Zealand is great value. For less than ten dollars you could be playing 18 holes and enjoy a beer on the 19th. For citizens of Japan and other countries it can even work out cheaper to fly to New Zealand and play golf there than play in their own country.
