Visitors in the North Island wanting to visit the South Island can take the ferry between Wellington in the north to Picton in the south. The town's main purpose may be catering for the travellers who arrive by the boat load, but the town itself is a destination in its own right. Located in the beautiful Marlborough Sounds, there are plenty of activities on offer such as sailing, fishing, diving, and swimming.
The famous Queen Charlotte Track is located here. This five day walk takes you through beautiful native forest and around the intricate waterways of the sounds.
