Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, and Melbourne rank in the top 30 of the Mercer Consulting's best cities report with Auckland and Melbourne often being listed in the top 5 cities in the world. Main settlements in the less developed countries of the South Pacific are often too small to be considered true cities. Nukuʻalofa, the capital of Tonga for example has a mere 24,000 people. Larger cities do exist outside of Australasia such as Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, but they usually rank poorly in the quality of life index.
