Mapu 'a Vaea (Whistle of the Noble) is a 5km stretch of volcanic rock along the coastline that has nearly hundred spectacular blowholes. Located on Tongatapu island near the village of Houma, it is accessible by motor vehicle and has a carpark at the entrance.
Waves crash into the rocks and sea water is forced into natural channels that forces the water to blow through holes. Some of the blow holes force water plumes up to 30 metres in height. The frequency of water plumes is constant.
