Tonga has few land-based animals, but there is an abundance of marine life that live in the sea that surround these islands. Humpback whales are the most notable marine life and attract many overseas visitors. There is also an abundance of colourful tropical fish that inhabit the coral reefs.
Sea life in Tonga include thousands of fish species and shellfish such as barracuda, butterfly fish, clownfish, crab, grouper, jellyfish, krill, mackerel, mahi-mahi, manta rays, marlin, puffer fish, sailfish, seahorses, sea urchins, sharks, shrimp, starfish, surgeonfish, and tuna.
