There are about 600 species of Pandanus Palm. They vary in size from 1 metre tall shrubs to 20 metre tall trees. They usually have a stout trunk with spread out branching. The root system has a prop at the base to provide support in the same way as a buttress root system works.
In Tonga, these palms grow between 4 to 14 metres (13–46 ft) tall. Their fruit can be eaten raw or cooked.
