Nestled in the temperate zone and isolated from the rest of the world, this group of islands boasts every landscape imaginable, as well as some that defy imagination.
The stunning North Island is renowned for its rich volcanic landscapes, lush temperate rainforests, vibrant Maori culture, and bustling urban areas. Meanwhile, the majestic South Island boasts a mountain range reminiscent of the European Alps, breathtaking fiords rivaling those in Norway, and ancient rainforests that hark back to the Jurassic era. With all of this packed into an area about the size of California, this remote country may offer more diversity and beauty than any other place of comparable size on Earth.
New Zealand also boasts a long and jagged coastline, comparable in length to that of the mainland USA. The coast is characterized by towering coastal mountains and serene South Pacific beaches. The country is also home to a unique array of fauna, including the iconic kiwi, the playful kea, and the mysterious tuatara, the sole surviving species in its genus.
