New Zealand lies in the South Pacific Ocean. The Tasman Sea lies to the west and seperates New Zealand and Australia. To the south lies the Great Southern Ocean. The nearest landmass to the south is the Antartica, so a southerly wind brings cooler temperatures to New Zealand.
